FENNEC OAK COUNSELING
Transgender therapist for queers, weirdos, odd teens, and those in-between
No one is broken. What does it mean to be you? What are your heart’s secret longings? What are the heavy parts you carry in your body and the hopes that you have yet to speak aloud?
Healing is not a linear process. Let us explore the winding path that is you: in the memories of your past, in the experience of the present, and in the possibilities of the future.
I am a transgender-identified therapist working with people experiencing anxiety, depression, and dysphoria, as well survivors of trauma. My main work is with young adults, LGBTQ+ people and their loved ones. I specialize in work with transgender and gender non-conforming people. In addition, I work with people who have been othered in various ways, whether that be due to race, class, gender, size, sexuality, abilities, or in other- harder to name- ways.
If you are curious to see if we would work well together, let’s set up a free consultation appointment either over the phone or in person.
I also offer professional consultation services for providers on transgender mental healthcare and trauma informed care.
healing is not linear
grief has no deadline
your ancestors have carried you through anxiety and worry
your body remembers
and it is possible to feel that way again

ALL ABOUT THERAPY
Learn About My Methods
Therapy is a relationship we build together. You bring your thoughts, values, and knowledge of yourself and I bring my experience in listening and facilitating healing and growth. I utilize feminist therapeutic practices, prioritizing recognition of power dynamics in the therapeutic relationship. We will check in often to see what is working, and what can be improved upon in our work together.Through a mixture of methods from the free-form existential, feminist, and and art therapies to body informed biofeedback, EMDR, and specific goal oriented trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy we will find the right tools for your life.

SERVICES I OFFER
ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION
Anxiety and depression are the two most common negative mental health patterns of our time. As such, I have a great deal of experience and training in working with people dealing with the effects of these issues. From teenagers dealing with the stress of being a student, peer, family member, and community member; to adults dealing with difficult intimate relationships, issues with work, home life, and overall meaning of life issues: There are many ways in which anxiety and depression can affect us. We can work though these issues through a mixture of therapeutic styles that work best for you.
TRAUMA INFORMED THERAPY
The majority of people living in the U.S. have experienced some kind of trauma, from large scale well known larger traumas such as abuse or violence to less major traumas such as social alienation and school bullying. Trauma affects us in a myriad of ways and can have lasting effects on our lives. We all process trauma differently and I prioritize using a holistic lens of healing, identifying the overlapping areas of life where trauma has affected you.
I have focused my work on trauma counseling and utilize training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), two evidence based practices for treating PTSD. I also utilize art therapy and body informed biofeedback therapy. We can figure what therapies work best for you. I have years of experience supporting people experiencing trauma as a crisis therapist.
GENDER AND SEXUALITY ISSUES
I specialize in working with transgender, gender non-conforming, lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, asexual, non-monogamous, and other gender and sexually diverse people. There is no right way to be an LGBTQ+ person. There is no right path to walk in coming to understand yourself and live in this world as an LGBTQ+ person. Narratives of how we are supposed to be LGBTQ+ can be just as damaging to our souls as gender and sexual discrimination.
If you are seeking someone to support you through transition, coming out, process gender dysphoria, complex gender and sexuality feelings, family, relationships, or even other healthcare experiences; then I may be a good fit for you.
In addition to my personal experience as a transgender person, I have worked in the community with Pizza Klatch, Queer Rock Camp, and the Trans Lifeline. I keep up to date on current practices through membership in The World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH), and the Society for the Psychology of Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity (APA Division 44).
I believe in the informed-consent model of medical transition and write informed consent letters for low-cost.
WHAT ABOUT ME?
Although I specialize in these areas, I enjoy working with a diverse mixture of clients. Having a therapist that you "click" with is proven to be the most important factor in a successful therapy experience. If you are curious to find out if we would be a good fit, or would like to know if I have experience and training related to something else important to you please get in touch. I offer a free consultation session.
